Vulnerable Children and Youth Action (VCAYA) is a registered nonprofit agency operating in conjunction with Hocus Focus* as our fiscal sponsor – a US tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and your donation qualifies as a tax deduction should you care to take it.  The Hocus Focus tax payer ID number is 27-2504010.  

Oukut Village was caught between the Ugandan army and the Lord's Resistance Army and suffered terribly in the conflict. They have lived in peace since 2008. VCAYA drilled a well there in 2017 and since then tremendous progress has been made to improve the lives of the families including vulnerable children and youth. The foundation and walls for a health clinic built in the summer of 2024 are complete. The roof, windows and doors need to be installed. Donations to date cover all that is needed to complete the building with the exception of $1,500.

  • Clean water wells: Goal for 2025 - 2 boreholes with irrigation systems for improved crop production. 
    • $8,000 each
  • School fees: Goal for 2025 - support for 25 children to attend the Silver Memorial Inclusive Learning Center. 
    • $150 per child includes 3 sessions 
  • Health Clinic: Goal for 2025 - install the roof, windows, doors and plaster walls of Oukut Health Clinic.
    • $1,500 to complete the building

40 children are enrolled in SMILE school. Unfortunately, not all of the children come from families that can provide the school fees. 

VCAYA started the foundation for the school building in 2014 and completed it in 2017. 

The head teacher, Jerome, is retired from the Ugandan public school system and has enlisted several other retirees to help individualize instruction for children of all abilities. 

The school holds 3 sessions each academic year. Tuition for each session is $50. A full year of education is just $150.
